Why Health Care Is the Second Leading Cause of Death in America and How To Ensure That It's Not Yours.
Two big changes in attitude are needed for health care to deliver on the purpose “to enable people to lead the lives they want.”
One change needed is a social revolution on the order of the one that gave women the right to vote. This change will make it unacceptable for the health care system to treat the people it serves as second-class citizens whose intelligence, values, priorities, and needs can be discounted. Ch. 14
A second change needed is more realistic expectations about what health care can and cannot do. It cannot make death optional, for example. It cannot by itself fix problems we create through our own choices. Ch. 14
